Introduction

The Scout Headquarters, off the Avenue, Combe Down, Bath, was built around 40 years ago by the 10th Bath Scout Group on land leased by the Firs Field Charity

The main building includes a large hall, meeting room, kitchen and toilets. It is used every evening (except Saturday) during term time, and some weekends. During the day the Combe Down Garage uses the car park

Outside of our regular bookings the hall and grounds are available for hire for private events such as meetings, jumble sales and children's parties. If you are interested in using the hall please see here for more details

Combe Down Stone Mines Project

Combe Down has been heavily mined to provide stone for building many of the distinctive and beautiful buildings around Bath. Much of the village has mine workings underneath it, including the Scout headquarters which sits above a large cavern. Within the headquarters grounds there is a shaft into the mines, which has until recently been capped. Over the past few years areas of the mines have started to collapse, and a study was made of the real state of the underground caverns and passageways. Funding has now been provided to fill the mine workings, thereby providing stability to the headquarters and much of Combe Down

During the major works on the stone mines the Project Team has requested access to part of the Scout Hut grounds so they can access a shaft into the mines. The Scout Group has agreed to cooperate with the project, and for a period of some years part of the grounds will be fenced off to allow mine access.
