1. Is a Gift Aid declaration complicated? No, it is very simple and only requires you to declare that you want your subscriptions and donations to be treated as Gift Aid donations. 2. Do I have to complete a separate declaration for each of my children in the group? No, one declaration covers all payments you make for all of your children. 3. Will I have to reveal any personal tax information? No, all that is required is very basic information, including your name, address, and confirmation that you want your Subscriptions and donations to be treated as Gift Aid donations. 4. Will it cost me anything extra? No, the group will simply claim back tax that would have gone to the Inland Revenue. We can then use this to reduce the impact of subscriptions and improve our programme. 5. What will I have to do in the future? Nothing. Once you complete the declaration this covers your child / children until they leave the group (and any donations that you make afterwards!). 6. What happens if my child changes section? Nothing, as the gift aid declaration covers all of your subs and donations paid to the group, and is not specific to any of the sections. 7. What happens if I stop paying tax? If you stop paying tax or have paid insufficient tax to cover the amount the Group will be claiming back you should inform the Scout Group and we will not make a claim for your payments 8. What happens if my child leaves the group? As there is no legal commitment in a Gift Aid declaration the Group will only claim back the tax on the subs payments you made before the child left the group. If you make any donations to the group after your son leaves then we will still be able to claim tax on this. 9. If I am a higher rate tax payer can I claim back the extra tax? Although the Group can only claim back tax at the standard tax rate, higher rate tax payers can claim the difference back as tax relief on their self-assessment forms. 10. What can you claim tax back on? The Group can claim back the tax you paid on subscriptions and donations. We cannot claim back tax for money paid towards camps, activities, day trips, or money from jumble sales, quizzes and other social events
