In April 2000 the Government introduced a new scheme that allowed charities to recover the income tax that was paid on donations. The scheme, called Gift Aid, is available to Scout groups and allows us to claim back the tax that you pay on your membership subscriptions and donations. For every £1 of subs that you pay, we can claim back the 28p that you paid in tax (at the basic rate of 22%) from the Inland Revenue. In 2007 we claimed back over £3000 from the Chancellor! This is a valuable extra income to the Group. There are only three things that you need to do to allow the group to reclaim your tax: 1. Make sure that the amount of income tax you pay each year is at least as much as we are going to claim back from your subs (around £25). 2. Download the Gift Aid Declaration form (PDF Document, 30kb). If you prefer, ask your leader for a printed copy. 3. Print it, fill in your name, address and postcode, sign and date it and return it to your childs's section leader at the next meeting. Note we cannot accept emailed versions. That's all there is to it! We can then recover the tax you have paid on your subs since the scheme began in April 2000, or whenever you started paying subs to the group. Unlike similar schemes that have been available in the past, Gift Aid does not require a minimum period of payments, nor does it force you in to a contract or binding agreement. The Scout Group does not have access to any of your tax details, and you can cancel your declaration at any time by contacting the group. A number of common questions on Gift Aid are available here. If you have any further questions then please do not hesitate to ask your child's Section Leader who will be able to help. Please continue to help the 10th to provide activities for your children by filling in the declaration and returning it to us. Bob Weeks Group Chairman | ||||||
