Dartmoor Expedition, October 2004.
We split into two groups, one group of three and one of 4 with 1 leader
per group. The weather was terrible. It was cold, wet and windy, a bit
like James.
On the first night we walked for about half an hour and then put up
our tents. It took us a while though because it was dark and extremely
windy.
Early the next morning we set off for a long hike, having occasional
breaks along the way. We had to go through alot of marsh areas so our
boots and socks got soaking and I was the first one to fall in. We set
up camp near the other group and a stream where we could filter water
for cooking and drinking. The meals we hed were de-hydrated, which means
all the water was taken out so it was lighter. We added the water and
it tasted disgusting. It looked like someone had already eaten it, and
it tasted like it too.
Apart from the weather and the food the expedition was fantastic. The
views were amazing and I don't think i've ever had so much excercise
in one go before. One thing i am really glad about is that our group
didn't contain a certain person, who will remain nameless, who likes
dinosaurs. Just kidding Simon.
All in all the Expedition was a huge success, and I would like to thank
Adrian and James for organising it and actually running it and I look
forward to similar hikes in the future.
