Memories of Fedw - January 2006
Leaving on the Friday night, we Explorers embarked
on an intrepid 2 hour adventure to reach the remote cottage of
Fedw, set high in the mountains and containing exiting structural
features, like a spiral staircase.
On the first day out we walked through howling winds,
blistering heat, freezing cold, and howling winds over the black
mountains, in temperatures as low as -30C through windchill. Our
routes took us over 20km of mountains, along with spectacular
views, snow, Tom, and howling winds.
After this we went back to the cottage to defrost,
and engaging in entertaining pastimes, such as a game of trivial
pursuit; won, of course, by the ludicrously talented team 2.
The following day we visited a Welsh climbing and
abseiling centre, where we engaged in climbing and abseiling,
as well as caving. After an arduous day of climbing, abseiling
and caving, we embarked upon yet another epic journey, although
this time with the minibus facing towards England. Upon reaching
our destination (the scout hut) we helped put all of the equipment
back, and went our separate ways, each holding in their head memories
of the weekend they had experienced, and in their hands a piece
of the minibus that they had stolen (or was that just me?).
